Situation

For the first time in her 30-year career, Danielle found herself without a job. Getting laid off was a gut-punch. As she says, “It pretty much rocks your world.” Feeling uncertain of what she wanted to do next and a bit vulnerable, she knew she’d be okay, but wanted to find something great, not just a job. Her first meeting with Recchion & Associates immediately put her at ease. Her coach laid out the phases of emotions Danielle would likely feel as part of the journey so she’d know what to expect while traveling through this unfamiliar territory. There was counsel, guidance and friendship throughout the entire process.

Strategy

The process, following a typical Recchion & Associates plan, was methodical and logical. Danielle met with her coach weekly over a three-month period, giving Danielle enough time to do the hard work of self-reflection and verbalizing her findings. The coach started with guided soul searching, asking targeted questions and diving into the “STARS” exercise, yielding a major aha and confidence-boosting moment for Danielle. Having revisited key moments in her decades of success, she was surprised by the number of major accomplishments she’d achieved throughout her career that helped move the companies she’d worked for forward. She saw on paper she was a talented and valuable employee and most importantly, she had key messages and talking points with relevant examples of experience at her fingertips, which she used during job interviews.

Outcome

It was a blockbuster outcome for Danielle. She ended up with a couple of offers, and chose a global communications job with Intel, a personal career goal for her. She also satisfied her need to give back to the community by taking a board position at one of the Valley’s most-respected non-profits, Gabriel’s Angels. Danielle sums up her experience at Recchion & Associates with wise insight: “It doesn’t matter if you’re an executive or mid-career professional. It’s okay to have blips along the way and it’s smart to seek guidance at times. We don’t have to have everything figured out and there are some pretty awesome people to help when you’re feeling most unsteady.”
